What we're up to

CEA has a wide range of options for community members to participate in: from martials arts to English tutoring, to our on-site summer camp.  In addition to these scheduled activities, we have "anytime activities" like our lending library, trampoline and sports area. â€‹

Extra Curricular Activities

Arts Events

At CEA, we  host periodic events for the community, including arts and crafts, and movie nights.

Taekwondo at CEA

Our Taekwondo classes help build discipline and self-defense skills, and are taught by our black belt instructor. Both kids and adult classes are available, and are paid or volunteer-based, depending on circumstance.

School Support Programs

Elementary to Middle School Tutoring

Long after the end of the pandemic, Costa Rica public school children are still catching up on their academics.  We provide free tutoring in math, social studies, sciences, and English for this age-group.

High School Tutoring

For high school students we offer ongoing English classes as well as target med subject matter based on need of our core group of attendees.

Return to School Program

In Costa Rican public schools if you fail a subject in high school, you are removed from normal schooling and spend an enire school year only that one class. This can leave students isolated and unmotivated to pass. Our return to school program for high school kids aims to provide students who need special help in a subject to pass their exam and return to normal schooling.

Always-on Activities

Lending Library

CEA offers a free lending library for the public, with books in Spanish, English and Portuguese. Anyone can borrow our books, and we currently have over 2,200 available.

The Game Room

We host a wide range of toys for kids – from dolls and Hot Wheels tracks, to Nerf Guns and board games. Just stop by – all are available to use (with parent supervision!)

Summer Camp

We hosted our first summer camp in June-July 2023, at a nominal cost to the community.

Activities included arts and crafts, traditional Costa Rican games, tug-of-war, water play, and planting seedlings to take home. The kids had a great time, and the program was significantly oversubscribed.

Our next camp is January 2024.
